Cerritos United Soccer Club Copryright 2013 05/19/2013 05/19/2013 www.cuscsoccer.net News from Cerritos United Soccer Club CUSC 95 BLUE – BU17 – 2012 CSL LEAGUE CUP CHAMPIONS 11/29/2012 01:14 AM http://www.cuscsoccer.net/home/680530.html Following a successful campaign as Coast Soccer League Silver Elite South division champions, CUSC 95 Blue, led by head coach Santino Prado, captured the 2012 League Cup Championship. Despite their successful season, CUSC entered the tournament as an underdog, seeded second in preliminary group play. However, through hard work and impassioned play, the boys were able to blaze their way to the semifinals, outscoring competition by a total of 17-2.

 

 

 

In the semifinal round, CUSC played gold team Chivas Jr. USA S.C. White to a hard fought 2-2 tie. Ultimately, the game was sent to penalty kicks and CUSC emerged victorious.

 

 

 

The real test, though, came in final game where CUSC was to play Oxnard AC Blue, a team from CSL’s prestigious Premier League. For 90-minutes the boys battled Oxnard in a back and forth grudge match, where neither team could best the other.  At the end of regulation, although, exhausted, battered and bruised, the boys were asked to play an additional 20-minute overtime period. It was during this time that the entire team showed great resolve and through a staunch defense held off any attack Oxnard could throw at them, causing them to once again go into the dreaded penalty kicks.

 

 

 

It was during penalty kicks CUSC got the best of Oxnard, by the amazing goal keeping of senior Goal Keeper

 

 

 

Kifi Cabrera, who blocked 3 of 5 shots and goals by forwards David Cortes and Eric Marquez and fullback Ivan Garzon.

Going into the final winning against Chula Vista Premier.  It was a good warm up to a very strong tournament schedule this summer. Having added 4 new players it’s good to see the team coming together on the field commented Coach Ben.  Great job.

CUSC 97 Blue  Boys under 14 took first in bracket with 11 wins, 0 losses and 1 draw. They scored 55 goals and allowed only 9 against. The team really matured and were very focused this year, and are looking forward to being promoted next season. This team and the 99’s are coached by Ben Prado.


 
CUSC 99 Blue Boys under 12 came in fourth in Gold after starting there season with injuries and ending it with injuries. They competed in League Cup with 135 teams advancing to the round of 8 with only 10 players. Great accomplishment by this group of boys. The heart and tenacity of this team is a joy to coach.
 
CUSC 94 Blue Boys under 17 had a very good season with 12 wins 2 losses.
